Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) has introduced Fast Pass, a biometric passenger processing system that enables eligible Qatar Airways travellers to move through key airport checkpoints using facial recognition instead of repeatedly presenting passports and boarding passes. The initiative is designed to speed up departures while supporting a seamless and paperless airport experience.
Developed in partnership with technology provider SITA, the system links a passenger’s facial image to their passport and boarding pass during enrolment. Once registered, travellers can use facial recognition at participating self-service bag drop counters, security screening points and boarding gates.
HIA said the rollout is among the largest biometric passenger deployments globally, connecting more than 700 touchpoints across the airport into a single integrated travel experience.
The airport said participation in Fast Pass is voluntary, with conventional airport processing remaining available for passengers who prefer not to use the service. Airport staff will also continue assisting travellers throughout the journey.
Currently, the service is available to Qatar Airways passengers travelling on eligible flights who hold a valid passport, begin their journey in Doha and are aged 18 years or above.
The airport plans to expand biometric-enabled touchpoints and extend the capability to additional airline partners in the future as part of its broader innovation roadmap aimed at enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.
