Strategic tourism and infrastructure projects valued at more than RO31 million are currently underway at Jabal Shams in the Wilayat of Al Hamra, reinforcing the destination’s position as a key mountain tourism hub in Oman. According to Oman News Agency, the developments form part of an integrated masterplan aimed at strengthening infrastructure, expanding visitor experiences and supporting the growth of mountain tourism in the sultanate. One of the flagship initiatives is the Jabal Shams Front project, valued at approximately RO11 million. Spanning an area of 145,000 square metres, the development is designed as a fully integrated tourism destination featuring recreational and cultural attractions. Planned highlights include a glass walkway overlooking the canyon, an open-air theatre and a cultural garden, all aimed at enhancing the visitor experience while showcasing the natural landscape of Oman’s highest peak. The project is expected to generate annual revenues of around RO1.26 million, while creating 309 employment opportunities and 32 investment opportunities across the tourism and services sectors. In parallel, a 32-kilometre road project valued at RO20.2 million is being implemented to improve accessibility to key tourism sites in the mountainous area. The infrastructure upgrade also includes the installation of 172 lighting poles along a 10-kilometre stretch to enhance safety and facilitate easier travel for visitors and residents alike.
